the summer holidays may be over, but you can still get a taste of europe at its best.
real venice at somerset house showcases original works by 14 renowned artists including philip-lorca diCorcia, nan goldin and hiroshi watanabe. the exhibition captures the paradox of venice as a major, historical tourist site and the damage this mass tourist exposure is doing to the city, as it already battles against geographical destruction.
real venice runs until 11 december, so there’s plenty of time to pay a visit. what’s more, all the works in the exhibition have been donated by the artists to be sold in aid of venice in peril.
with over two hundred drawings, paintings and sculptures by international contemporary artists, this will be selfridge’s largest art collaboration in its history.
the exhibition takes up the shop’s exhibition hall, and its store fronts too. and if you still haven’t got enough, you can visit the shop of everything on the ground floor, and have refresh in the cafe of everything.
what more could you want? you’ve got everything!
i don’t even really know what to say about this.
whilst doing some serious timewasting the other day (i.e. a mega browse) this thing practically jumped out and hit me in the face.
so, i bought it.
the next ones are a little blurred, like the line between vulgar and excellent.
no cats were sickened or blinded in the making of this post.
i even match the decor!
if you are at a loose end this weekend, go and rent/buy/borrow/
steal how to marry a millionaire. yes, it was made in the 50s, but don’t let that put you off. if you never go near the hollywood classics, start here. starring marilyn monroe, lauren bacall and betty grable at their very best, you’ll wish they made sex and the city with these three.
not only is it one of the greatest romantic comedies ever made, we could all take some style tips from the ultra grooming of the three leads.
and if you can rock a pair of specs like marilyn in this film, i salute you.
this weekend, take a swipe at the original mojito and shake it up with absolut citron.
it feels oh so right. you will love it. trust me.
~ 3 parts absolut citron
~ 2 parts lime juice
~ 1 part syrup du gomme
~ 1 part soda water
~ 6 leaves mint leaf
~ 1 slice lime
how will you be seeing in the weekend?
the month of september is synonymous with NEW. i’m not one to wish away summer, but whilst the school kids snap up their new threads because it has been ruled as thus by the powers that be (shiny shoes or detention? I’ll take three pairs!), the rest of us have to actively search for new season justification.
luckily, it’s not hard to find – there are some excellent transitional pieces out there that will take you from the last rays of summer well into autumn. and we can all tell ourselves it’s like getting two for one! hoorah! here are some of my personal favorites…
